Information sought after daytime sexual assault
The RCMP is warning the public of a sexual assault in Kelowna and is asking for information that can help forward the case.
Police say a woman was walking along Springfield Road and Hollywood Road South between 12:20 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. Monday, June 13, when she was followed and sexually assaulted by a male stranger.
The woman told officers she was forced towards Mission Creek and sexually assaulted, sustaining non-life threatening injuries in the process.
The man is described as a South Asian man in his mid 20’s with black hair, a well-groomed beard, and partially shaved right eyebrow. He was wearing a black zip-up puffy jacket, white T-shirt and green silk sweatpants at the time of the alleged assault.
“Investigators from the Kelowna RCMP Sex Crimes Unit are actively canvassing the area for video surveillance in an effort to identify and locate the suspect,” said Cpl. Tim Russell of the Kelowna Vulnerable Persons Section.
Anyone with dash cam or surveillance footage from the surrounding area during the time in question, or who may have information on the identity of the suspect, is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or to file an anonymous report with Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
